Looks Like McCain Has To Give "Prizes" To Supporters To Spread His Message

Ron Paul said a while back that many other politicians were coming to him and asking him how he used the internet so effectively, while they missed the point that the message is the reason for the spread and not the tactful and strategic use of the internet. Since none of those other politicians believed that the message of freedom is the reason the message spreads, they are trying desperately to come up with tools to help spread their ever changing propaganda. For instance, John McCain will give out prizes to people who share his message over the internet as reported by the Washington Post.

"Spread John McCain's official talking points around the Web -- and you could win valuable prizes! "

"That, in essence, is the McCain campaign's pitch to supporters to join its new online effort, one that combines the features of "AstroTurf" campaigning with the sort of customer-loyalty programs offered by airlines, hotel chains, restaurants and the occasional daily newspaper." -

What a joke. How about going back to our Constitution and follow that and the people will follow accordingly.

Stagflation and the Economy

Once upon a time, Keynesian economists believed that there was a trade off between inflation and unemployment. "Too much" employment, they believed, caused high inflation. If the economy began to "overheat," the Fed could cause a recession by restricting the flow of credit to the economy, thereby slowing economic activity and putting a damper on inflation. William McChesney Martin, Jr, Fed Chairman from 1951 - 1970, believed that the Fed's job was "to take away the punch bowl just as the party gets going." At least that was the theory.

After Martin left his post, the Fed was confounded by an entirely new phenomenon in the 1970's: stagflation, a combination of economic stagnation, high inflation, and high unemployment. No one believed such a thing could happen until it did, because it wasn't in their economic models.

It looks like we're headed towards stagflation once again, in certain parts of the economy. Check out this article from the Telegraph UK: Airlines to cut 60m seats for Christmas.

Airlines are set to make the reduction, the equivalent of one in every 14 seats, in response to high oil prices and the global credit crisis, according to the Official Airline Guide (OAG). Reduced availability is almost certain to force up ticket prices.

In all there will be 59.7m fewer tickets available compared to October-December last year. Routes will be scrapped at 275 airports around the world and 3,500 fewer planes will be needed, according to the OAG.

While Europe will suffer the loss of 5.5m seats, America will be worst hit, with a reduction of about 20m.

The slow economy has hit the airline industry hard. They were already overbuilt due to artificially cheap credit supplied by the Fed, as I explained here. When the hammer of a slowing economy fell, they needed to take drastic measures to survive. Cutting seats and routes to force up prices is once such measure. (Charging for water, pillows and blankets is another)

even though we have a stagnant economy, the cost of flying will go up. This is the paradox of the economy that many people will be confounded by - prices won't behave like they believe they are supposed to based on the economic models in their heads. Airline prices are not going up only and directly because of high fuel prices. It is a little more complicated than that. It has to do with Fed policy that encouraged overinvestment in the first place, and the huge cutback in supply of seats. It is important to remember that things are not always as they appear at first blush.

In the coming, difficult economic environment, different industries will be affected differently. Prices in some industries will go up, in others they'll go down. Some industries will disappear altogether. For example, Netflix and video on demand are likely to eliminate the concept of a video rental shop.

Word to the wise: there is no such thing as "The Economy." There are multiple sectors that make up the economy, but each will be affected differently.

China to Bush: Mind your own business!

Surely you good people have seen this in today's headlines...

Massachusetts Un-Tax Party

Wall Street Journal | REVIEW & OUTLOOK

Boston Tax Party
August 5, 2008; Page A18

Massachusetts is about the last place one would expect a tax revolt, but that's what's brewing in Beantown. The state board of elections recently certified that citizen activists have gathered the 125,000 signatures required to qualify an initiative for the November ballot to eliminate the state income tax.

The Small Government Act would repeal the 5.3% income and wage tax, as well as the state capital gains tax, which reaches as high as 12%. The ballot initiative would replace the $12.5 billion in taxes with . . . nothing. "One of the points here," explains Carla Howell of the Committee for Small Government that is driving the referendum, "is to force the state legislators to start cutting the bloated state budget."

Proud Of My Wife...

Hello Freedom loving patriots!

My wife Marie has made me so proud of her. About last December we heard about Ron Paul from my brother who served in the Army and was a West Point graduate living in KilIeen Texas. Right away, like so many others, our eyes were opened to the truths of our country. We have donated, participated, and now my wife just won as a precinct delegate for the 12th precinct in Michigan. Not only that, but it was only two weeks ago that she was asked to be campaign manager for a local freedom living campaign running for the House of Representatives. She has always wanted to be involved in politics, especially at the grass-roots level, and our awakening has given her this chance. She does this, and will do more, but not for fame, status, or money....but for love of country.

Can I ask those who love liberty to give her a hip-hip-hoorah, because our families aren't really interested, and our friends don't care, and we feel kind of lonely. Thanks!

What is your favorite Ron Paul Quote?

One of my favorites by the great man -

It is said we go about the world waging war to promote peace, and yet the price paid is rarely weighed against the failed efforts to make the world a better place. Justifying conscription to promote the cause of liberty is one of the most bizarre notions ever conceived by man! Forced servitude, with the risk of death and serious injury as a price to live free, makes no sense. What right does anyone have to sacrifice the lives of others for some cause of questionable value? Even if well motivated it can’t justify using force on uninterested persons.

Has anyone had a non Ron Paul supporter read The Revolution--A Manifesto??

If so, please leave what feedback they gave you, did they like it? did it change their opinion on Ron Paul??

Please Post ....

thanks

RE: Bank Bailouts & Commodity Devaluations

Below is a comment that I posted in response to LibertyBaby's thread titled, Can someone explain why bank bailouts devalue commodities?. It's a little long so I figured I'd just post it as a thread of its own also. Caveat emptor - no one has a crystal ball, and this only my opinion.

- - - - - - - - -

The relationship between the recent government bailouts and the fall in commodities is not a cause/effect relationship. What we are witnessing now - in my opinion - is a generalized deflation. Valuations are falling across the board - paper assets as well as commodities - but the government is choosing to save the paper assets with bailouts while letting the rest fall.

Since America left the gold standard in 1971, prices have been rising steadily, inflated by cheap credit supplied by the Federal Reserve. As I like to say, everything from a cup of coffee at Starbucks to the house down the street is overvalued due to the availability of cheap credit. Half of Americans are technically broke - no savings and net credit card debt. But they can still get a latte at Starbucks! Just put it on the credit card, if there is room. The result of the Fed's cheap credit policy is that it flowed throughout the global economy, causing higher and higher prices for some things, but paradoxically, lower prices for others.

An example of higher prices was the housing boom: People were only getting 1% in their bank savings accounts, so they thought, "Hey - maybe I should go out and try to flip a house. I'll get a liar's loan, buy a house and fix it up. Instead of 1%, I'll make 20, 50 maybe even 100%! And instead of just doing one, maybe I'll do 10, or build a tract of houses." And that worked for a while - it really did. Housing prices went way up from 2001 - 2005. That was the housing boom, but as we are now painfully aware it was only an illusion.

Meanwhile, cheap credit also flowed into industries like the domestic auto and airline industries, and overseas to countries like China. China had all kinds of money to build factories for the kinds of things Americans liked to buy to furnish their new homes: DVD players, flat screen TVs, and and cheap and flimsy furniture. Just like America got overbuilt with houses, China got overbuilt with factories. Likewise, the airline industry got over extended with excess capacity, and the auto industry went crazy with 0% financing allowing them to keep their factories humming. And why not? Credit was so cheap!

As a result, excess industrial capacity - in autos, airlines, factories in China, and yes, even Starbucks, - pushed prices down for consumer goods. It looked like the best of all worlds - assets were rising in price while stuff was getting cheaper. This is part of mechanism by which inflation (increases in money supply) was hidden. You could fly across the country and back for a few hundred bucks, and get a portable little DVD player at the drugstore to watch movies as you flew for $20. No inflation there, right? And while you're at it, charge yourself a $4 latte while you wait at the airport. (Yeah, $4 is a lot for coffee, but what is $4 more on a credit card balance of $10,000? People need their "little luxuries" in these hectic days, right? )

Law Professor: Counter Terrorism Czar Told Me There Is Going To Be An i-9/11 And An i-Patriot Act
Steve Watson

Amazing revelations have emerged concerning already existing government plans to overhaul the way the internet functions in order to apply much greater restrictions and control over the web.

Lawrence Lessig, a respected Law Professor from Stanford University told an audience at this years Fortune’s Brainstorm Tech conference in Half Moon Bay, California, that “There’s going to be an i-9/11 event” which will act as a catalyst for a radical reworking of the law pertaining to the internet.

Lessig also revealed that he had learned, during a dinner with former government Counter Terrorism Czar Richard Clarke, that there is already in existence a cyber equivalent of the Patriot Act, an “i-Patriot Act” if you will, and that the Justice Department is waiting for a cyber terrorism event in order to implement its provisions.

During a group panel segment titled “2018: Life on the Net”, Lessig stated:

There’s going to be an i-9/11 event. Which doesn’t necessarily mean an Al Qaeda attack, it means an event where the instability or the insecurity of the internet becomes manifest during a malicious event which then inspires the government into a response. You’ve got to remember that after 9/11 the government drew up the Patriot Act within 20 days and it was passed.

Chertoff threatens governor, governor threatens Chertoff!!

The Governor of Montana wrote a letter to Homeland Security Secretary Michael Chertoff. The letter informed Chertoff that Montana would not be complying with the REAL ID Act. Chertoff called the Governor and threatened him. The Governor countered with his own threat. Chertoff responded “I see the problem. We need to get this fixed.” LOL.

Have you protested to your elected representatives that the Secretary of Homeland Security has been threatening the citizens of states that don't comply with REAL ID? If not, please do so. You can mention the Chertoff-Schweitzer exchange in your personal comments. Ask Congress to repeal the REAL ID Act. You can send your message here. http://www.downsizedc.org...

If you've sent a REAL ID Act message recently, consider sending another "I am not afraid" message. We have a lot of new people who probably aren't familiar with our "I am not afraid" campaign. You can check it out here. http://www.downsizedc.org...
