October 20, 2007 Since July 2007, the Portland, Oregon, Ron Paul Meetup group has held multiple weekly 'Banner Brigades' during rush hour at various locations across town. At each Banner Brigade, we display a wide variety of 'home-made' signs, in addition to official campaign signs, such as ‘Ron Paul for President.’ Made with stencils and spray paint, our home-made signs display succinct messages that are thought-provoking, informative, and sometimes even humorous. (If you can make people smile while making an important point about Dr. Paul, that's pure gold.) As part of this effort, we've been brainstorming sign ideas for weeks, and have now made those suggestions publicly available on the Ron Paul Sign Page. Aside from the Internet, Banner Brigades are perhaps the most effective medium for 'spreading the word' about Ron Paul. Unlike the rare coverage of Dr. Paul in conventional media, WE control the messaging on our signs, so others don't have the opportunity to distort his views and track record. In other words, our signs ARE our media -- delivered direct and unfiltered to our target audience -- and in an average two-hour span during rush hour, thousands of people read our signs. Without a doubt, Banner Brigades provide the biggest 'bang-for-the-buck' for our time and effort. Due to the effectiveness of Banner Brigades, we gave some thought to how we might assist not only our own local efforts, but those of Paulunteers everywhere.
