"As international investors wake up to the relative weakening of America's economic power, they will surely question why they hold the bulk of their wealth in dollars...
The dollar's decline already amounts to the biggest default in history, having wiped far more off the value of foreigners' assets than any emerging market has ever done."
… The Economist
I might add that the dollar's decline is wiping out the value of your dollar denominated savings and assets as well, even though you do not see the precipitous decline except in rising food prices, the cost of haircuts, and other essentials.
You can thank the politicians of both parties, including all the "leading" candidates from both parties.
Wars and socialism bring the destruction of wealth at home, every time. The "elite" just forgot to include that historical fact in your high school history text.

"If ye love wealth greater than liberty, the tranquility of servitude greater than the animating contest for freedom, go home from us in peace. We seek not your counsel, nor your arms. Crouch down and lick the hand that feeds you; May your chains set lightly upon you, and may posterity forget that ye were our countrymen."
