Wavy found this one:

"The budget should be balanced, the treasury should be refilled, public debt should be reduced, the arrogance of officialdom should be tempered and controlled, and the assistance to foreign lands should be curtailed lest Rome become bankrupt."

Cicero, circa 63 B.C.

Re:Quotation for Today 1 Year ago
The person who seeks all their applause from outside has their happiness in another's keeping.

Claudius Claudianus 340-410, Egyptian Latin Poet

Notice that Ron Paul is inner directed. While I am sure he enjoys the applause, he does not live for it, or like most other political figures, fawn and pander for it.

Ron Paul is a Parrhesiates, which is ancient Greek for one who practices Parrhesia, or "Fearless Speech."

He speaks the Truth. You know what he says is true because of his character, not because he's citing numerous expert opinions. The proof of truth is his courage in speaking something that differs from what the majority believe. In speaking the truth he puts himself at personal risk, but he prefers to be a truth-teller rather than a living being who is false to himself. He is frank. He speaks to the art of how best to live and does so through freedom and a sense of duty that create a specific moral relationship between himself, what he says, and us, the listeners.

It is not necessary either to agree with him, or to understand the nuances of the Greek conception of a Truth-Teller to know that when you listen to Ron Paul you are listening to some who is authentic, and unique.

And that is part of what all of us find so exciting and significant about Ron Paul. He stands squarely in a 2700 year old tradition of Truth-Telling.

The most imporant thing about money is to maintain its stability... You have to choose between trusting the natural stability of gold and the honesty and intelligence of members of the government. With due respect for these gentlemen, I advise you, as long as the capitalist system lasts, to vote for gold.

The most dangerous man to any government is the man who is able to think things out... without regard to the prevailing superstitions and taboos. Almost inevitably he comes to the conclusion that the government he lives under is dishonest, insane, intolerable.
