The next step: The Campaign for Liberty

The last jaunt through Shasta National Forest was slow and sometimes slippery even with State crews clearing the roads. We stopped for a break often, which was rather nice considering there was no traffic and no "civilization" - the silence of winter was deafening.
We stopped for a half tank of gas (the car gets 40mpg) at a little shop in the middle of nowhere - Hallelujiah, I believe. An amish couple drove up the same time in a semi carrying a rocket launching tank on a flatbed. How peculiar. We reached Reno at 3pm Thu, Jan 10 and met with Joni at the hotel. Our plans had been rearranged several times since we initially talked - I didn't know she was going to be at the hotel until I got there. We might have discussed it on one of our cell phone conversations, but I don't remember as I was tired from several days of sleep deprivation. Regardless, Justin met with with Jay, the call center organizer, and we all sat around a lobby table and were told of campaign's plan - use the call center to inform and encourage caucus goers to stack the deck in Ron Paul's favor. Weighing the turnout from canvasing and calling, Joni and I opted to join the call center. The first order of business was to find boarding. We followed Jay to the call center where tables, computers and phones were being setup in the back room of a warehouse in the industrial area of Sparks, NV. Darkness fell upon the scene and a local Nevadan, Robert, picked up Joni and I and dropped us off at a location where we transferred with Steve. He was to chauffer us to Chris's, but first we drove a friend's house who was ill. Steve had picked up supplements and prepared a concotion for her to drink - the main ingrediant was Oregano oil. Within minutes she was visibly better and we sat down with her husband and 13 year old kid and watched the Presidential debate on Faux news. Ron was pitched some wild questions, but he knocked them out of the par, especially the absurd question "Are you electable?" The debate ended and the text message poll began. I called everyone to participate while we left for Chris's place, the final destination. Joni and Steve joined in as we parked on the side of a mountain road, galvanzing everyone for the window of opportunity.
We ended at Chris's and found that Ron had won the debate with 32%,
even in spite of the propaganda tool Frank Lutz's ridiculous "focus
group" question, "Who thought Ron Paul lost?" Joni and Steve left and
with the day wearing on me, I dropped into a foldaway bed and drifted
to sleep.
One person has commented on this article. No.1 "Are you electable?"
As funny as it is I liked that they asked that question. Well, I guess I have to say I liked how Ron Paul answered that question. Best debate to date! Jerret Kinsman (Super Administrator) • 2008-01-16 18:07:56 |

On the
final pass through the long plains of Nevada, we passed a convoy of
unmarked government vehicles heading the other direction.
